All photoelectric smoke alarms installed in Queensland must meet:
AS 3786 Standards: Photoelectric alarms must comply with Australian Standard 3786, which specifies performance, sensitivity, and reliability requirements for residential smoke alarms.
- 10-year sealed lithium battery (G-TEC Electrical's recommended and installed solution)
- 240V hardwired with backup battery is also legislatively compliant
- Standard 9-volt batteries requiring annual changes are not compliant
- Every bedroom
- Hallways connecting bedrooms to other dwelling areas
- Each storey if there's no bedroom on that level
- Ceiling-mounted in optimal detection zones
Interconnection (where required): Properties built after 1 July 1997 or substantially renovated after 1 July 2014 require all photoelectric alarms to be interconnected (hardwired or wireless technology).
Professional installation ensures every aspect of compliance is met, protecting you legally and providing reliable fire detection.
