What Glenn Runs Into in Rangeville Homes

The older homes up this way were wired for a very different load to the one a family puts on them now. A lot still have their original switchboard, ceramic fuses and not enough safety switches, and the wiring behind the walls can be the old rubber or cloth insulated type that breaks down with age.

The later brick homes tend to have the opposite problem. The wiring's usually sound, but the board has run out of room, so adding an air conditioner, an EV charger or a new kitchen means finding capacity that isn't there.

Bigger blocks bring their own jobs too: power out to sheds and studios, outdoor lighting along long driveways and garden paths, and weatherproof power for entertaining areas.

“Glenn completed a board upgrade at my 1959 home. Glenn was professional, communicative, courteous and reliable; he shared an enthusiasm for his work, took time to explain things and made sure I was comfortable with the job. If these qualities are important to you then I confidently recommend Glenn (G-TEC) for your electrical requirements.”
    Anthony W., Rangeville

    Queenslanders and character homes

Original boards, old rubber or cloth wiring and too few safety switches. Upgrades done with care for timber walls, ceilings and original features.

    Post-war homes

Often a fuse box still in service and not enough power points for how the house gets used now. Fuse box to circuit breakers is the common first job.

    Later brick family homes

Sound wiring but a full switchboard. Capacity work so EV chargers, induction cooktops and new circuits have somewhere to go.

    Larger blocks

Power to sheds and studios, outdoor and garden lighting, and weatherproof points for pools and entertaining areas.

    Good To Know

    Rangeville FAQs.

Anything else? Glenn answers the phone himself.

Yes, it's a big part of the work up this way. Older homes often still have their original switchboard and aged wiring. Glenn takes care with timber walls, high ceilings and original features, and he'll tell you what actually needs doing rather than what could be done.

Ceramic fuses, not enough safety switches, breakers that keep tripping, or a board that feels warm are all signs. So is running out of room when you want to add air conditioning or an EV charger. Glenn can look at it and tell you honestly whether it needs replacing or just needs work.

It depends on the board, the main cable and whether there's asbestos backing. On switchboard jobs Glenn has done, the cost has generally landed somewhere between $2,000 and $5,000. He'll give you a real number once he's seen it.

Yes. On bigger blocks that usually means a new circuit or sub-main from the house, sized for what you'll run out there, with safety switch protection. The distance and what the cable has to go under or through decide how big a job it is.

Glenn's a one-man operation and he's usually booked a couple of weeks out. Ring him on 0489 082 307 and he'll tell you straight when he can get there, or whether you'd be better off calling someone sooner.

Yes. Glenn gives a lifetime workmanship warranty. If it's down to his work, he comes back and fixes it himself. Parts carry their manufacturer's warranty.
