This is what most people ring about, so here's the straight version.
They run hot. A halogen downlight can sit at up to 370 degrees. That heat goes into the ceiling cavity and into the room, and in a roof space full of insulation it's a genuine fire risk. An LED runs cool by comparison.
They keep blowing. Halogen globes usually last 1,000 to 2,000 hours, which is six to twelve months in a normal house. LEDs run 25,000 to 50,000 hours. If you're up the ladder twice a year, that's the real reason to change.
Retrofit globes aren't the same job. You can screw an LED globe into some halogen fittings, but the old transformer stays, the housing isn't fire rated, and it was never built to shed heat from an LED driver. Glenn takes the whole fitting out and puts a dedicated LED in.
The dimmers have to change too. A dimmer built for halogen makes LEDs flicker, buzz, dim over a tiny part of the range, or die early. If your lights are dimmed, the switches get swapped at the same time.
